It\u2019s kind of like\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/video.vogue.com\/series\/73-questions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vogue\u2019s 73 Questions<\/a>. Instead, it\u2019s in blog\u00a0form and there are less than 10 questions \u2013\u00a0<em>because you\u2019re busy and we respect your time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Meet the Team: Derek Kauss<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This week on Team GMD we are featuring the newest addition to our design team, Derek Kauss. Originally from Toronto, Derek moved west to spend more time in the mountains and the surf. He has an impressive portfolio, featuring work for the likes of Arc\u2019teryx, Herschel Supply Co and the University of British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Read on to learn more about Derek!<\/p>\n<p><strong>In a short paragraph, tell us a little bit about your role at GMD. What do you do on a daily basis?<br \/>\n<\/strong>My role at Glacier Media Digital is visual designer. With this role I am involved with many different tasks (which I enjoy) from user interface design, creating social media and advertising assets to brand identity design. I work with many talented graphic designers with different skills than my own, so there is a huge opportunity to learn new things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal kryptonite:<\/strong><br \/>\nStress. I find it can inhibit my design process, so I meditate often to calm my mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hidden talent:<\/strong><br \/>\nEye-rolling \u2018dad jokes\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you currently listening to? <\/strong><br \/>\nEl Michels Affair playlist on Spotify.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you had to give a TED Talk, what would it be about? <\/strong><br \/>\n1. The benefit of meditation for creatives<br \/>\n2. Believing in your own personal experiences and value as it pertains to being a designer<\/p>\n<p><strong>How would you describe your design style?<\/strong><br \/>\nModern and clean, with a focus on human-centred design.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A cause you are passionate about: <\/strong><br \/>\nEnvironmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favourite resources for design trends\/inspiration:<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u2028<a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\">Design Boom<\/a> &amp;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.awwwards.com\">Awwwards<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Favourite thing about working from home? <\/strong><br \/>\nThe very short commute to my office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First thing you\u2019re going to do when Covid is over? <\/strong><br \/>\nGo to a live music show, then plan a vacation or trip to visit family in Ontario.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favourite Vancouver brunch spot?<\/strong><br \/>\nFable in Kits. Probably the best brunch I have experienced in Vancouver, delicious with locally sourced and healthy ingredients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the last thing you watched\/listened to\/read that inspired you?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Book of Do, by Chris Do (Futur).
