As we move into cooler months, we might see our social calendars\u00a0ramp up with seasonal activities and events. One industry event that kicked off our social season was the Adobe Creative Jam<\/a>, a design hack-a-thon event combined with inspiring creative talks from industry leaders.<\/p>\n

Glacier Media Digital was proud to have 3 representatives in the\u00a0competition this year:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After a full and busy day of work at the office, they were off to begin\u00a0their\u00a0challenge, which took place at the Loungeworks<\/a> event space, right here in our lovely Pixel District neighbourhood (a.k.a. Mount Pleasant).<\/p>\n

As\u00a0a previous Adobe Creative Jam\u00a0competitor myself, I remember the thrill of the challenge as well as the pressure. I couldn’t help but feel\u00a0some nerves on their behalf. I even had visions of giving them a little pep talk and some pointers before they left for battle, but alas, I was in a meeting\u00a0during GO-time. In fact, I had to push Seonah out of that\u00a0very meeting so she could get to the competition on time.<\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

The Challenge<\/h4>\n

This year’s event focused on user experience design with the theme of\u00a0Diversity\u00a0& Inclusion<\/em>. Using Adobe XD, competitors\u00a0were challenged to\u00a0interpret the theme into\u00a0an app concept and design a prototype in 3 short hours, followed by a user-flow demo as proof-of-concept that had to be delivered within 2 minutes.<\/p>\n

The Outcomes<\/h4>\n

1.\u00a0Colour Check app
\n<\/strong>Concept by Samantha Matheson & Skye Macpherson<\/p>\n

Sam partnered with another UX designer to a build a design tool that allows designers to consider users who are colour blind in their design process \u2013 specifically when they are choosing a colour palette for their work. Designers are able to see the results of their palette and make changes according to how the the app rates their palette.<\/p>\n

This optical research based tool would assist\u00a0designers in a broad spectrum of\u00a0visual communication categories, which not only includes\u00a0digital interaction design but also signage, print design, illustration, industrial design, typography, animation,\u00a0and\u00a0environmental design.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Shop to Share app
\n<\/strong>Concept by Seonah Han & Adriano Fernandes<\/p>\n

Seonah and Adriano combined forces to develop an app prototype\u00a0which connects consumers and manufacturers\/retailers to help people all around the world.\u00a0Users can shop on this app to benefit causes and NGO’s, where\u00a0profits\u00a0will go towards the non-profit\u00a0organizations associated with the consumer products listed in-app.<\/p>\n

Users begin their shopping experience by\u00a0choosing the need or value they would like their\u00a0shopping to benefit for the session. For example, if they\u00a0want their\u00a0purchases\u00a0to support Education in Brazil, the next screen would serve products from retailers whose profits will go towards that community cause.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>In the end, the judges and audience weighed in, with favour going towards a childhood education app<\/a>, an emotional diversity awareness app<\/a>, and a walk & talk with a local app<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In just 3\u00a0fleeting hours, it was impressive to see\u00a0such a variety of purposeful\u00a0app concepts and prototypes that\u00a0incorporated the theme\u00a0of diversity\u00a0& inclusion<\/em> in unique ways. Outcomes aside, the\u00a0Creative Jam\u00a0theme had us all\u00a0celebrating and valuing differences between people.<\/p>\n

I’d like to thank our 3 GMD champs – Sam, Seonah, and Adriano – for stepping into this renowned Adobe arena and representing our agency this year.<\/p>\n
