Another week, another Team GMD Q&A. It\u2019s kind of like\u00a0Vogue\u2019s 73 Questions<\/a>. Instead, it\u2019s in blog\u00a0form and there are less than 10 questions \u2013\u00a0because you\u2019re busy and we respect your time<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Meet Robert Huynh, GMD\u2019s Creative Director. Robert is a Jack-of-all-trades in digital media and visual design. From photography to graphic design, motion graphics to print design, there isn\u2019t much this guy can\u2019t do. Read on to find out more.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Expertise<\/strong>: Sticking my hands in my armpits. ^<\/p>\n

Hobbies<\/strong>: Backing cool projects on Kickstarter<\/a> and watching\u00a0Youtube videos. If you are a film buff, I recommend the Lessons from the Screenplay<\/a> channel.<\/p>\n

Personal kryptonite<\/strong>:\u00a0It’s not wise to announce one’s\u00a0weakness.<\/p>\n

Office habit<\/strong>: I have a habit of getting a\u00a0Dirty Chai<\/em>\u00a0(chai\u00a0latte + espresso) from Starbucks. The chai spices kind of irritate my throat and I end up coughing a lot. I’m sure it’s annoying for the people who sit around my desk. Sorry, office peeps.<\/p>\n

Isn’t that a weakness?<\/strong>\u00a0Drats.<\/p>\n

Hidden talent<\/strong>: I am known to do a bit of photography.\u00a0Check out some of my work (below).

There’s an urgent\u00a0project that needs to be delivered EOD. You haven’t even looked at the brief. Describe your creative\/ firefighting processes. What are the major steps?<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. If the brief is long, I like to print it out and carefully read through it. For me, the key is to use a highlighter marker to emphasize important\u00a0details,\u00a0which helps with retention of important instructions during that first read-through.\u00a0Then, I\u00a0hit the ground running.<\/li>\n
  2. There is often one asset in a project that can set the art direction for other deliverables. I work on that thing first.<\/li>\n
  3. My industry experience enables me to\u00a0be\u00a0quick, practical and decisive. It’s about thinking on your toes,\u00a0maintaining high-quality output, and working smart.<\/li>\n
  4. Skip lunch.\u00a0Think about\u00a0having a huge meal for dinner.<\/li>\n
  5. Sometimes you need to ask for\u00a0help – and you should.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Next vacation destination:\u00a0<\/strong>Somewhere\u00a0with access to Grand Canyon National Park<\/p>\n

    It’s 11 AM on a Saturday morning. What are you doing?\u00a0<\/strong>Trying to clean up my\u00a0live-work apartment\u00a0to reset it for\u00a0my next creative project.<\/p>\n

    Any advice for the\u00a0emerging creatives?<\/strong>\u00a0If you are starting out\u00a0with\u00a0natural\u00a0creative instincts,\u00a0work to build your awareness of different types of business operations and commercial\u00a0retail or service\u00a0models. On the other hand, if you\u00a0have more of a business mind, aim to get a good grasp of design industry standards, production processes, and the tech that powers it.<\/p>\n

    At Glacier, we\u00a0work\u00a0in media tech and ad tech, which is always changing and can sometimes feel disorienting with big disruptions. We\u00a0can’t\u00a0solely\u00a0rely on\u00a0our knowledge of tech tools anymore. As much as we’d like\u00a0that security,\u00a0the tech you love and worked hard to master might be obsolete in 5 years.\u00a0It can feel like we\u00a0have to re-learn\u00a0tech tools constantly.<\/p>\n

    However, developing a\u00a0strong\u00a0acumen\u00a0of creative\u00a0problem-solving and business outcomes will\u00a0serve\u00a0you well for your entire career.<\/p>\n
